I’ll cover what those are in just a moment. But first, with every opportunity it seems there's always a monstrous barrier to overcome.
And I'm afraid this is no exception.
In fact, with these two huge opportunities come two problems—2 inevitable monkeys on your back—that will surely weigh you down
and leave you scrambling in the trenches for the "privileged" chance to make a few paltry dollars trading the "old way".
What do I mean? Well, the first problem you’re probably all too familiar with.
Yep, it’s those pesky insiders that always seem to know what’s going on, while the regular folk investors like you and me are scrambling and left in the dark. And forced to settle for the leftover crumbs after the vultures have fed.
If you’ve been trading for any length of time, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Sure, you may end up on the winning side of a trade here and there. You may even (more rarely) take in a huge gain or two.
But c’mon. You know it and I do too. How is it that the insiders seem to have control over how certain stocks will perform?
And how come we never get access to their "crystal ball"? Or at least put a stop to their "wrecking ball" that demolishes your carefully considered trade positions.
Well, the one-two punch will affect them too! Whether they like it or not. And many of them won't be ready for it, their 'influence' fading like a flower clinging to life in face of the coming winter frost.
That's good for you and me, but...
The second problem is even more of a threat.
I’m talking about all the options “courses” out there that teach fluff and theory, all the while throwing hype and B.S. at you. Promising quick and easy money at the push of a button.
I call them “hope peddlers”.
Because that’s exactly what they’re doing. Pitching you hope and hype.
Then they try to sell you more products and courses, not caring whether you succeed or not. That $1000 product you bought turns out to be all but useless without their $5000 product.
Unfortunately I've seen too many "raw but ready" traders give in to their endless slick pitches, turning the money they could have soundly invested with just one proven strategy into information overload that yields them nothing. (And after they give in and buy, it turns out it's not even good information!)
I don’t know about you, but I’d rather master one good strategy with all the mechanics that I can use in the real world than get a truckload of theories that just plain don’t work.
And have you ever noticed how they make these strategies so complex, when they don’t perform for you doing real trades, you end up thinking it was you who did something wrong?
That’s the way they like it. After all, you end up thinking, you must have missed something!
Ridiculous!
So with these whoppers hanging over our heads, how is the average investor ever supposed to get ahead?
Well, that brings me back to the 2 big opportunities I talked about earlier. But even THEY come with a few caveats.
Here’s what I mean:
The first big break for you and me is one you may have heard about.
Yes, late last year, the announcement that’s about to rock the stock trading industry and will hit the options market like a giant tsunami is this…
The NASDAQ Is About To Create An Options Market!
Now you may say, “I've already heard that before...” But…
Not one trader in a thousand realizes the true ramifications of this event – what it really means… the creation of a New World Order of trading and investing – one in which the “Old Rules” no longer apply.
You see, the NASDAQ is the largest U.S. electronic stock market. With about 3,200 companies, it lists more companies and, on average, trades more shares per day than any other U.S. market.
In short, the NASDAQ is the “Big Kahuna” of all U.S. markets!
And last September, it announced plans to operate a fully automated, price/time priority options market with an opportunity for price improvement for all participants. The NASDAQ Options Market will be the FIRST EVER options trading platform to offer true price/time priority!
Do you know what this means?
Quite simply, it means the NASDAQ is about to level the playing field for all options traders!
And it means…
…All the games other options market makers play to take your money – or force you to lose - will soon be history. (Yes, even those pesky insiders!)
It means that options trading is about to explode, and become the "Biggest Game In Town!"
It also means that new fortunes will be made by savvy traders with the right knowledge and information.
And to sweeten the deal even further, the NASDAQ will also start listing options in penny increments, instead of the current spread of 5 cents.
That means your risk in trading options could plummet five-fold, because you'll be able to get in and out of positions more quickly. You won't have to worry about losing 'the spread'—that built-in profit—on the trade.
That's a pretty powerful punch right there.
But it gets even better. Remember, I mentioned a one-two punch. So what's the second punch? (You'll love this...)
Well, the SEC is petitioning to make historic changes of their own. Changes that will make the Nasdaq's entry into the options markets 10x more powerful and important to your trading!
So what are these changes?
Well, basically the SEC is changing their margin requirements in favor of the individual investor.
William Brodsky, Chief Executive of the Chicago Board Options Exchange, who championed the margin revision.
“This is a sea change in the way customers can manage money in their portfolios from the point of view of margins,” he said.
As you probably know, margin requirements are the amount of collateral your broker requires from you before you’re able to buy a stock or option.
And The New Rules Change The Entire Option Landscape As We Know It!
The new rules will let brokers include all your current stock and option positions in figuring out how much of that collateral they’ll need from you.
In other words, these changes could free up a lot of capital you currently have locked up, giving you SIGNIFICANTLY more leveraging capabilities than ever before.
Here’s an example William Brodsky gave (William is the executive primarily responsible for the margin changes):
If you were to buy 500 shares of IBM for $82.60 and also 5 “put” options, giving you the right to sell those 500 shares for $80 (protecting you against a drop in the stock, of course)…
Under the current rules, you would have to put up $20,875 in margin for this investment.
Under the new rules, however, the margin requirement is only $1525!
That’s the second punch of the one-two punch I was talking about earlier.
In a moment, I’m going to show you how the two can work together to really make a difference in your holdings…and your winning trades.
But for now, recognize that the impact of these changes can be easily misunderstood.
The bottom line is…
Depending on your broker’s terms of service, you may be able to
leverage your trades using margin without invoking the regulation change...
But if your holdings are small, you may not have any portfolio margin at all.
Here’s how you might use margin to leverage and protect your trade by
just buying 5 puts:
- 500 shares of IBM at $113.10 is $56,550
(Buying power used: $28,305)
- IBM 5 “puts” @ $110 is $1025
(Buying power used: $1025)
- Total cost of trade is $57,575
(Buying power used: $29,330)
If all this is Greek to you, don’t worry! It’s not as complicated as it sounds.
But you do need to know a few important things about how you’ll be impacted by the new rules, which I’ll explain in just a moment.

Look, learning the basics are obviously important. But that will only get you so far. The bottom line is, you don't want (or need) a one-size-fits-all theory plan.

Volatility
is an extremely important component of option
trading.
